Designated Survivor season 2 episode 21: Who was shot?
Let’s make things very clear: Emily Rhodes was shot in the closing minutes and unfortunately, there wasn’t much in the way of information in the promo for the finale in regards to what is coming up on the show next. We do think that removing Ricci’s character from the equation is one of the biggest moves that the writers could make towards destabilizing Kirkman’s administration. Yet, is it something that we want? Hardly. Ricci’s a dynamic performer who brings a lot to the show; also, we’ve already lost one important character this season in Alex Kirkman. When you consider the total loss of life since the pilot, Designated Survivor may actually be one of the most deadly shows out there on all of TV.
Beyond just what’s going on with Emily, the stakes entering the finale are clear. While Kirkman was able to reach an agreement with multiple parties,, there are still challengers coming to his Administration. That’s without really even talking about everything that is going on in Ethan West.
In the end, isn’t this where Designated Survivor is at its best? You can spend all of your time focusing on one part of the story only for the other part to show up and hit you in the face. With the finale putting multiple lives apparently in jeopardy, there are so many different surprises that could happen around almost every turn. Fingers crossed that the finale is worthy of all of the hype.
