The Blacklist season 5 episode 22 (finale): The duffel bag conclusion
In past interviews (including one here at CarterMatt), show executive producer Jon Bokenkamp has mentioned that the finale could have one of the biggest cliffhangers ever. It will dramatically change the whole landscape of the show. Basically, what we are trying to say at the moment is that you’re going to want to watch the show and live — beyond that, there is a very good chance that there will be some enraged fans in the event that the series does not come back for another season. (We’re still waiting on that renewal, NBC!)
Below, The Blacklist season 5 episode 22 synopsis has the following to say when it comes to the story ahead:
05/16/2018 (08:00PM – 09:00PM) (Wednesday) : SEASON FINALE. Liz (Megan Boone) and Red (James Spader) face off in a climactic race to find a Blacklister in possession of the duffel bag of bones, forcing the truth about the bones to finally come to light. TV-14 L, V
The finale is entitled “Sutton Ross,” who is of course going to be another important criminal and Blacklister. At times in the past, we have seen Blacklisters from finales end up being key components in seasons coming up in the future and we certainly have to consider that a possibility here, as well. We just know that regardless of what happens with the bones (and there are many different theories), we do think that there are some exciting possibilities for season 6.
One of the biggest questions that we do wonder now is this: As we approach the series’ endgame, whether it be season 6 or some other point down the road, does Reddington get to ride off into the sunset? While he may be magnetic and full of charisma, we are discussing here a notorious criminal who broken more laws than we can ever count. Is his justice served by all the other work that he has done, or does he end up paying the piper himself in some sort of larger way? These are questions that the finale could help to answer.
