Fox orders new supernatural series The Passage for 2018-19 season
Fox has officially picked up one of its first drama pilots to series for the 2018-19 season, and this is one in The Passage that has some strong supernatural (and vampirism) undertones.
This is a series that features a cast led by Mark-Paul Gosselaar and includes the likes of Saniyya Sidney, Vincent Piazza, Brianne Howey, Jamie McShane, Caroline Chikezie, and Emmanuelle Chriqui. It’s based on a book series that has been in the works at Fox for quite some time — remember that vampires were at one point all the rage, which is why many vampire-related properties were bought up in hopes of finding the next Twilight, True Blood, or The Vampire Diaries.
For more insight, take a look at the logline below:
A secret government medical facility is experimenting with a dangerous virus that could either cure all disease or cause the downfall of the human race. The series focuses on 10‐year‐old Amy Bellafonte, who is chosen to be a test subject for this experiment, and Brad Wolgast, the federal agent who becomes her surrogate father as he tries to protect her.
The “virus” that is mentioned here turns out to be rather similar to vampirism, hence why it has been brought up within this article.
What does this mean for other shows?
If you love Gotham, Lucifer, Lethal Weapon, or any other bubble series out there at the moment, don’t automatically assume that this is going to lead to any of them being canceled. It was inevitable that Fox was going to bring in another show just because that’s what networks do. We’ll see what happens over the course of the next week or so — we are at a point in the year where more news regarding the future of some of these shows could be determined at almost any moment.
