The Resident episode 13 review: Was Nic arrested? Meet her sister

Resident episode 13

Tonight, The Resident episode 13 brought you a number of different cases that did their part to show you, in part, what was a new structure and hierarchy at the hospital. Remember now that Dr. Bell is in charge and, beyond just that, The Raptor is now a part of the staff.

One of the things that we saw in terms of patients was the arrival of York’s mother to the hospital, which turned out to be very challenging for AJ just in terms of his ability to concentrate. Apparently, one of the reasons that he struggles so much with people is just because he cannot deal with them. This is why it is valuable for him to have some of his patients under anesthesia.

No matter anything else that happened with the Raptor, the good news here is that York’s mother pulled through — thanks in large part to Devon, who does possess a great deal of that personal touch AJ lacks. (Granted, he may want to do a better job of pulling up charts.)

Another patient for Conrad and Devon was a woman who had spent a lot of her life helping criminals get their lives back together. While things were touch-and-go, taking on this case was a chance for Conrad to embrace the wonderful merits of modern medicine. This is why he loves his job. Of course, Bell came in afterwards to be a complete spoil-sport … mostly because he is the WORST and he loves to be that way.

Elsewhere in this episode, we saw a few other surprising stories that were told — namely, the arrival of Nic’s addict sister to the hospital. This caused her, at least temporarily, to be distracted in her attempts to stop Lane Hunter. Yet, that was short-lived given that by the end of the episode, she found herself in handcuffs for a crime that she did not commit. What we’ve learned about Lane over time here is that she is incredible resourceful and, in the end, she’s often good at getting what she wants.

While Nic was arrested, unfortunately her sister took off from the hospital and there almost wasn’t anything that Conrad could do about it. She did eventually come around to a certain extent but it’s pretty clear now entering the finale that just about everyone is in a tough spot.

CarterMatt Verdict

There was a part of us that does wish that there were some more opportunities to see some of the main stories on The Resident play out tonight — we spent a lot of time here on case-of-the-week plots and while those are entertaining, this is a show that brings a lot of other great content to the table, as well.
