NBC orders new series The Enemy Within, The Village

To go along with the recent renewal of Good Girls and the pickup of their medical drama New Amsterdam, NBC has officially picked up a pair of new dramas for the upcoming 2018-19 season! One of them features the return of Dexter alum Jennifer Carpenter and Rosewood actor Morris Chestnut. Meanwhile, the other has been compared in some ways to This Is Us, a show that has drawn rave reviews and helped NBC become one of the most-popular networks on TV the past couple of years.

Here is some of what we know about the new series to date.

The Village

Cast – Moran Atias, Dominic Chianese, Warren Christie, Frankie Faison, Jerod Haynes, Daren Kagasoff, Michaela McManus, Lorraine Toussaint, Grace Van Dien

Logline – Despite difference in age, race, culture and lifestyle, the residents of a Manhattan apartment building find that the more their lives intertwine, the more complex and compelling their connections become, thus proving life’s challenges are better faced alongside family, even if it’s the one you make wherever you find it.

The This Is Us comparisons are pretty darn clear here, with the biggest difference being that this is about a metaphorical family more so than some sort of family by blood relation.

The Enemy Within

Cast – Jennifer Carpenter, Morris Chestnut, Raza Jaffrey, Kelli Garner

Logline – Character-driven investigative thriller set in the world of counterintelligence focuses on former CIA agent Erica Wolfe, the most notorious traitor in modern history and most hated woman in America, who is brought out of a federal supermax prison by the FBI to help stop some of the most dangerous acts of espionage threatening the United States today.

Basically, this sounds a little bit of The Blacklist meets White Collar meets Homeland — this is a pretty tried-and-true formula and it’s hard to be upset with the idea of getting more of Carpenter and Chestnut on TV.
