Should The Resident season 2 bring back The Raptor full-time?

The Resident season 2

Could The Resident season 2 feature AJ Marino, otherwise known as “The Raptor,” will beyond this season? It’s certainly a question worth looking at further.

For starters, let’s kick things off here by discussing where we are right now in the story. AJ proved in his debut appearance on the series last week that when it comes to medicine, he is head and shoulders above just about everybody. That’s not where he struggles; instead, that is in his bedside manner. He can be overly intense and intimidating, and he is the sort of doctor you have to let work behind the scenes and not directly with patients. That is at least where we are at the moment with the character, and it remains to be seen just where we could be moving forward from here.

At the end of this past episode, we saw Dr. Bell offer The Raptor a promotion to stick around Chastain full-time. He knew he had a lot of the leverage given that there aren’t too many other people banging down the door for this guy and he took advantage of the opportunity to get someone with a whole lot of skill.

Now, is this character going to be around for however long the show lasts? When Malcolm-Jamal Warner was first cast on the show he was listed as recurring, but given this latest story twist it’s not altogether hard to envision a scenario in which he gets brought back for a season 2, provided that the renewal happens. (For the record, we’re cautiously optimistic about a renewal.) What The Resident really likes to do is spotlight doctors who are brilliant in their field but also conflicted in other aspects of their lives. With Conrad, we’ve seen that with his battles against authority figures. With The Raptor, we could see that with the way in which he treats everyone around him. This could be a mask for his own insecurities; no matter what the reason is, though, we’re hoping that there is a chance coming up on the series to explore it further.

For now, we’ll see how the remainder of season 1 plays out; it’s possible that something could happen to the story of this character between now and the end of the season. As it is, though, we’re thinking there is a pretty good chance we will see more of the character coming up.
