MasterChef Junior season 6 episode 12 review: Showdown of the sisters

In some ways on MasterChef Junior season 6 episode 12, we do think that Evan got the short end of the stick. After all, the man was forced into a showdown with Remy and Olivia, and with that in mind the big theme of the Pressure Test was a Sister Showdown. For most of the season, having the two sisters around has been a big part of the story. Yet, the macaroon-themed Pressure Test was going to split the two up for the first time all season.

So what happened to get them there? The first challenge in this episode featured two teams of three cooking for some former contestants from past seasons. This was a fun showdown just because we got to see a lot of familiar faces who have improved their food since being on the show. Beyond that, it was fun to watch Mikey parade around in his golden apron like he was wearing a championship belt. Olivia was the Captain of her team, but there were some problems that went along with that in that her older sister kept taking over and it took them some time in order to get on the same page.

While we don’t think that the other team (the red team) was perfect, they did enough to secure victory and a chance to move on to the next round.

This brings us to the macaroons — nobody completely stunk up the place. Evan was still the first home cook eliminated, which means that we really were left with Remy vs. Olivia. One of them stayed, and one of them went. The judges chose Olivia to leave in the end, which was probably the right choice just because Remy has had some higher highs over the course of this season. She’s also probably better equipped to handle whatever challenges are going to be coming up.

CarterMatt Verdict

Tonight, MasterChef Junior featured the most epic showdown of the season so far, one that was every bit as emotional as you would have imagined. We saw a lot of whispering and a lot of quietly saying “please” leading up to the judges making the decision. It was tough for Remy to celebrate just because of the fact that her sister was going home. We do still think, though, that these two sisters probably have a future in food together and they probably need each other in order to be super-successful down the line in the food business.
