Big Brother Canada 6 discussion: Immovable objects

William Kenny

Sometimes, it is often one move or one person who can mess up the endgame of a season of Big Brother Canada — or really any other edition of the franchise, for that matter. They are the one who can’t be moved, the person often too stubborn to see the forest through the trees. This season, that person is clearly Will.

What struck us the most about Wednesday night’s new episode of the Global series was that Will was so scared of being taken out in fifth place that he let Derek basically goad him into quitting during the Veto Competition — he had a real chance of winning it but due to this, he couldn’t take either Paras or Maddy off the block. Had he done that, Derek would go up and he would go home. Because he gave in, though, Maddy is also certainly going home that week.

What is Will even playing for at this point? It’s simple: $20,000. The worst players to have in a game like this are the ones who are more than fine getting second place. Kaela already told him that she would take him to the final two and he feels better about that than he would about taking a risk on the final five Veto. Maybe he has some sort of logic within his thinking — it’s possible he never gets Derek or Kaela’s vote if he screwed them over at the Veto Competition; meanwhile, it’s possible making this move turns him into a far bigger jury threat and he’s cut by Paras or Maddy at the final three.

Regardless, the lack of the risk tonight is one of the biggest problems with Big Brother Canada 6 and its endgame — the people capable of making some moves (see Paras and Maddy) either aren’t making them or aren’t winning the competitions to make them. Meanwhile, Will is capable of winning the competitions but simply decides not to since he’s fine getting second place. Does he really think that a jury will pick him over someone as dominant as Kaela? Sure, he can get Johnny’s vote, but last we checked that’s just one vote. Someone like Paras will always vote for the best player and we don’t think too many jury members will want to justify voting for someone who clearly didn’t deserve to win over the competition.
