Law & Order: SVU season 19 episode 20 takes on Turpin Family headlines

On Wednesday night’s Law & Order: SVU season 19 episode 20, you are going to see a case that seems to be very much ripped from the headlines. We’re talking, to be specific, about the headline surrounding the Turpin Family.

If you didn’t see some of those stories back when they first came out, they revolved around a family who was keeping their children captive in their house, often starving and without giving them access to much of anything in the outside world. At times they lived in squalor and in pain and were only discovered because of one child who managed to escape. It was one of the most unspeakable stories that we’d heard about in a rather long time.

So how does SVU tell their version of a similar story? The sneak peek via E! News gives you a little bit of insight into that subject. In this preview it’s actually Amanda Rollins who takes center stage as she, after an escaped child is found, investigates the home and tries to figure out a way to get information and see the conditions for herself. They are unspeakably bad, but unfortunately a little girl is so unnerved by her presence that it leads to the parents turning up. This is where things get dangerous for Amanda — she has to figure out a way to not only escape from this situation, but also to bring about justice for these kids who don’t even understand what the outside world is like.

Obviously this episode of SVU is not meant to be a note-by-note retelling of the headlines around the Turpin family, but you will still see from start to finish here how Olivia Benson and the entire team take on this sort of case. It’s one we’re looking forward to seeing, especially after the hiatus that we’ve been dealing with the past couple of weeks.
