NCIS season 15 episode 22: How Pauley Perrette’s exit will be nostalgic

If you are an eagle-eyed NCIS fan, there is a good chance that there is going to be something about Pauley Perrette’s exit you will appreciate — even if the idea of the exit itself makes you sad. Executive producers Frank Cardea and George Schenck understand the magnitude of what they are doing here in sending off someone who has been a part of the series’ overall universe for a rather long time now. They recognize that this is very much a big deal and with that in mind, they want to make sure that it is memorable. Not only that, but they want to make sure that it harkens back somewhat to past seasons of the show.

In speaking on this subject a little bit further in a new interview with TVLine, here is some of what Cardea and Schenck had to say on the subject:

“For Abby’s farewell, it was not only important that we pay tribute to this wonderful character, but that we give her a very special departure … Not only are there heartfelt and nostalgic moments, we have a very special reveal for the fans.”

When it comes to the nostalgic moments, we imagine that you’re going to see some callbacks either to certain parts of Abby’s personality or storylines over the past decade and a half. If the show can really give us a few surprises from the first few seasons we’ll be especially happy; there’s a really dedicated legion of fans out there, after all, who have been there from the very beginning.

What will this reveal be? We’re certainly curious and hope that it is going to be some sort of tiny nugget that suggests that, in some shape or form, that Abby’s legacy is going to live on. It’s really not all that often that a show like NCIS really gets to surprise us, after all — the majority of the big reveals tend to be ones that are revealed in advance and in terms of the show’s tone, there is not a concentrated effort to really deviate from it all that much and understandably so.
