Outlander star Sam Heughan runs Stirling Marathon, posts personal-best time

Outlander season 3 - Sam Heughan

For the second straight weekend, an Outlander star managed to run an entire marathon by the time we were getting together our morning coffee. Last week, the person we were talking about was Caitriona Balfe. This time around, it’s Sam Heughan.

This morning, Heughan competed in the Stirling Marathon, a beautiful and picturesque run that also included some challenges, including a hill at the end! Sam officially completed the run a few hours ago, which he shared in a post on Twitter alongside a video interview with journalist Fraser Knight at the scene. (Is there a better first name for a journalist in Scotland than Fraser? We’re not quite sure.)

While the Stirling Marathon doesn’t receive the same amount of attention as the London Marathon to the south, there were plenty of runners taking part and a great spirit of competition. Heughan’s presence of course did bring more attention to the proceedings, which we always like to think of as a great thing since it allows some more people the opportunity to pay attention to some of the causes that were being supported by runners. Sam was competing today for Cahonas Scotland, a group that helps to raise awareness and funds to battle testicular cancer, as well as his My Peak Challenge imitative.

Sam says that his closing time of just under 3:15 was his personal best. The good news for him now is that, unlike Caitriona last week, he’s not going to have to hop on a flight immediately afterwards to go back to Scotland. He’s already up close to where much of season 4 filming has been taking place; while we can’t say for sure if he has scenes to film tomorrow, he should have enough time to rest if need be. New episodes of Outlander premiere on Starz this fall, but filming is set to continue still until some point in June.
