Game of Thrones spin-off could be based on Fire & Blood material
One of the things that we have heard upon occasion is that the spin-off series is going to be set in the past, and with George R.R. Martin just releasing Fire & Blood, a historical account of the fictional world and the history of the Targeryan family line, it’s fair to assume that some of the stories in there could be the basis for the spin-off.
Is that true? Well, the biggest thing that we can say on the subject right now is that it’s possible. That is something that series author George R.R. Martin confirmed in a new post in his blog:
Oh, and I should also say… as most of you know, HBO is presently developing a number of different prequels to GAME OF THRONES. I know I am going to be asked whether those shows are going to be based on material from FIRE & BLOOD. It’s a logical question. The only answer I can give is… ah, well, no one is sure yet, and anyway, I am not allowed to say. So let’s move that to the side.
Ultimately, this is something that you should be thinking about both now and moving forward into the immediate future — just don’t expect too many answers immediately. The Game of Thrones spin-off, no matter what it ends up being about, will probably not air on HBO unless at least 2020 or later. The final season of the flagship show is slated to premiere in 2019, with filming wrapping up a little bit later this summer.
