Designated Survivor season 2 episode 20 preview: Kirkman’s negotiation

Want to know what lies ahead on Designated Survivor season 2 episode 20? It almost goes without saying that this is an especially important installment this season. Hopefully, we are going to have a chance to see whether or not Kirkman finds himself in deeper hot water with Ethan West. His investigation is likely going to keep going as we move ever closer to the finale. Could that lead to a great cliffhanger? Maybe, but given how hush-hush ABC has been about the end of the season it feels like they’re not going to be altogether keen to hand out more information.

President Kirkman negotiates with a foreign government to release an American held overseas, while attorney Ethan West (Michael J. Fox) continues his investigation.

The current state of the season 2 ratings

This is a subject that we’re taking on almost every week at the moment, mostly because of the fact that this is a show that is very much on the ratings bubble. The biggest thing that is working for it is the fact that the series stars Kiefer Sutherland. He’s a huge sell in international markets and this, in turn, allows for this series to be infinitely more marketable than some other series that are out there.

However, the biggest things working against the series are some of the ratings themselves. Designated Survivor hasn’t improved from a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic in the past several weeks and when you think about that number, it’s probably pretty darn clear that this performance can’t be something ABC loves. It’s lower than almost any other show that is regularly on the air for them and with this huge cast in mind, it’s also fair to question just how profitable it can be, even with some attention internationally.
