Game of Thrones may finish before The Winds of Winter comes out

Game of Thrones - The Winds of Winter

For everyone out there complaining about the premiere date for Game of Thrones season 8 not being in 2018, you really don’t have anything on book fans who have been complaining for years about The Winds of Winter. It’s been almost seven years at this point since the last book (A Song of Ice and Fire) was released and in a new press release for his new Fire & Blood book, George R.R. Martin confirmed that The Winds of Winter is not coming in 2018, either.

With that in mind, it’s possible that Game of Thrones will be over before you even get a chance to see the next book of Martin’s series on bookshelves.

As for the reason why all of this is so frustrating for many people, we imagine that it begins with book purists wanting to see the end of Martin’s original vision long before seeing it play out on HBO. Beyond just that, there are fears as to whether or not the book series will finish at all and whether or not it will live up to any of the hype at this point. Martin’s novels are notoriously dense and contain a lot of content, and from that vantage point alone it could be worth the wait. We just live in a culture these days that is really ripe with instant gratification and people who want what they want whenever they want it. While Martin never put a precise launch date on The Winds of Winter, there was a hope that at least one more book would be out before the end of Game of Thrones.

To think, there is technically still one other book in the series coming beyond this upcoming one in A Dream of Spring, which is going to tie together (hopefully) some of the threads from the entire series.
