Latest Lucifer, The Resident ratings; Lethal Weapon implications

Lucifer

Given that we’re firmly in renewal / cancellation season, this does feel like the best time to focus on the statuses of some bubble shows. With that, our Monday ratings update is a little bit about Lucifer, The Residentand in some ways Lethal Weapon in turn.

When it comes to the first two shows, there is nothing that is altogether terrible to report. Lucifer drew a 0.7 rating that is equally to how the series performed the week before; meanwhile, The Resident dropped slightly to a 0.8. Neither one of these ratings are great, but you do also have to remember that ratings in the spring are always down and, to go along with this, these two shows are airing against the one-two punch of American Idol and The Voice. Those two shows gobble up a ton of viewers.

We’d love to get a sense as to whether or not these two shows are either renewed or canceled soon, if for no other reason than to keep us from getting too stressed out over them (beyond, of course, what we already are).

It feels almost terrible to say this (and in some ways it is), but the recent reports regarding Lethal Weapon could tangentially have some sort of impact on the future of one of these shows. If Lethal Weapon does end up getting canceled, that could open up another spot for Fox on their upcoming schedule. If Fox was leaning towards canceling either Lucifer or The Resident, that could in turn help them. We’ve stated for a while that in between these three shows and Gotham, we wouldn’t be surprised if one of them ends up getting canceled just because A) Fox isn’t canceling most of their other scripted dramas, save for likely The Exorcist and B) there’s going to be less real estate this fall because of football.

With all of this said, we’ll continue to root for all of them — regardless of what happens with the Clayne Crawford situation over on Lethal Weapon, we want to see the show continue if for no other reason than to continue to employ the remainder of the cast and crew.
