Call the Midwife season 7 episode 7 preview (PBS): Barbara’s condition worsens

For everyone out there preparing for Call the Midwife season 7 episode 7 airing on PBS in one week’s time, there are two words that we will use for advice: Buy tissues. We don’t want to give much of anything away in regards to this episode in advance, other than of course noting that this may be very well the most emotional, gut-wrenching installment that you’ve seen this season. It’s going to be a memorable story of someone fighting for their lives and what everyone tries to do in order to make the world better around her.

You saw tonight the beginnings of this story with Barbara. In trying to help everyone else, she now lands in a position where she is going to struggle to also help herself. You’re going to see the struggle continue with a wide array of highs and lows next week. We know that it can be cliché to say “just watch” when talking about an issue of this severity, but this is really one of those occasions in which the statement really applies. “Just watch” is the best thing that can be said at the moment when there are so many possible spoilers that we want to steer clear from.

Barbara’s condition doesn’t improve and she’s kept in isolation at the hospital, leaving her friends bereft. Dr. Turner and Shelagh assist a man held in a remand home, while Lucille makes some new friends.

No matter what happens with Barbara in this episode, know that Jack Ashton and Charlotte Ritchie are going to give great performances. Also, known that we’re going to also see some happiness and joy over the course of the hour. One of the things that is abundantly clear about Call the Midwife at this point is that the series really is about so much more than just one story or one emotion. It is capturing a picture of a certain part of life and this is what this episode will hope to do.
