Sherlock: See Benedict Cumberbatch’s response to Martin Freeman comments
Some of the latest comments from Benedict Cumberbatch may amplify this a little bit further, as he does seem to have a pretty clear difference of opinion from his co-star Martin Freeman at least on one subject: Handling the pressure of the series. Freeman made comments in a recent publication suggesting that the expectations of the show have made it not too much fun do anymore; he later clarified those comments slightly, making it clear that he does enjoy working on the show itself. (He just has some issues dealing with some of the relentless pressure that is there to please the rather hefty audience watching all over the world.)
Suffice it to say, Cumberbatch has something pretty clear to say in response to all of this. Per The Telegraph, he makes it more than abundantly clear that he does not have any problem handling the pressure at all:
“It’s pretty pathetic if that’s all it takes to let you not want to take a grip of your reality … What, because of expectations? I don’t know. I don’t necessarily agree with that… I just don’t feel affected by that in the same way, I have to say.”
We do have a feeling that the UK tabloids are now going to spin this entire situation out of control and proclaim that there is some sort of epic feud in the works between Cumberbatch and Freeman, largely because that is, for the most part, what they do. We don’t see this as that by any means. Instead, what we are looking at here for the most part is a case of two people just having some rather different opinions on a subject. Another thing to remember here is that every person out there has a different process, and that includes how they adjust and handle the notion of fame.
