Outlander star Caitriona Balfe finishes London Marathon

There’s a funny thing about time zones sometimes — while we’re just waking up and getting our coffee together on the West Coast of the United States, Caitriona Balfe is off running a full marathon in London.

As of right now, we can confirm that the Outlander star has officially completed the London Marathon, which she was competing in to raise money for World Child Cancer. Her confirmed time for the marathon is 04:47:40, a fantastic time — even more so in comparison to if we were running, given that we would’ve probably passed out around two or three miles in. Marathons are a huge physical endeavor and require an extreme amount of stamina and determination. Yet, they can also be immensely rewarding, especially in Balfe’s case given that she is doing all of her running for the sake of a great cause.

The craziest thing about Caitriona’s participation in the marathon this year is the simple fact that following her performance today, she has to go back to Scotland immediately for a very different sort of performance as Claire Fraser. She is required to be up on set bright and early in the morning Monday; due to the way that the schedule for filming had been constructed, she really was not able to get a whole lot of time off following her participation in the event. The one good news? Filming is being done in the studio, so at least she’s not having to work outdoors on location the day after doing something this grueling.

Caitriona was cheered on by many fans all over the world — and her co-star in Sam Heughan to go along with it! Sam posted the photo below on his Twitter account earlier today; as a veteran marathon runner at this point he sympathizes with much of what she’s going through. He’s also doing a pair of marathons of his own a little bit later this year in an effort to raise funds for Cahonas Scotland and also those supported by My Peak Challenge. Marathons just so happen to run in the Outlander family.
