Outlander season 4: What makes Caitriona Balfe’s marathon run all the more impressive

Outlander season 4 filming is happening on a pretty constant basis at the moment, especially since the series is firmly now in its home stretch. There are a couple of months still to go until filming officially wraps, and from there, you’ve got a wait of around three or so months depending on when the premiere airs this fall.

So what makes what Caitriona Balfe is doing coming up all the more impressive? As you may have read previously, the actress is running the London Marathon this coming weekend in support of World Child Cancer, a charity she actively supports. That is a fantastic feat in itself, but add to this the fact that she is going from running said marathon to then going back to Scotland to resume filming the very next day.

Speaking to the Evening Standard on the subject, here is what Balfe had to say about her truly-intense plan for the next several days:

“I’m working all week then flying down to London on Saturday. I’ll try to do a yoga class to get stretched out before it starts, then after the race I’m flying straight back to Glasgow that evening as I’ve got to be on set at 5am.

“It’s going to be interesting. You never know how the film scheduling is going to work out and I couldn’t get that day off. Fortunately, it’s all interior scenes and I just have to sit around in a kitchen. I won’t have to get on a horse, which is what I was really worried about, or, thankfully, run.”

Balfe also noted that she has received some advice from her co-star Sam Heughan, an active runner who has done marathons in the past and is set to do two more coming up for My Peak Challenge and Cahonas Scotland.

Beyond the impressive physical feats that Balfe and Heughan are accomplishing with these runs, it is nice to also get another note of what’s going on with filming — there have been many different interior scenes filmed as of late, which is why there have been so few reports about what’s happening on set. When Outlander is in the studio, you don’t get much in terms of public updates. That will change at some point before the end of filming.
