Does Chicago PD need a big Burzek development in the season 5 finale?
It shouldn’t come as any surprise for us to write that we are invested and/or rooting for these two characters to take another step forward in their relation. Burzek has been a key component to Chicago PD for quite some time and they are certainly one of the reasons for the show’s popularity. Yet, the relationship as of late has been somewhat on the back-burner for many different reasons, whether it be the Bingham case or some of the other week-to-week investigations that we’ve seen for Intelligence.
We should in some ways commend the Chicago PD writers for their restraint, given that this is a police show first and not a relationship show. Yet, simultaneously it does feel like there is room for a little more romance without shattering the whole visage of what this show is. It’s clear at this point that Ruzek and Burgess care about each other deeply, just as it is also clear that they are not the same two characters that they were back when they were first engaged. Therefore, the value in getting the two of them in this place now is actually exploring what it’s like when they both have both feet in and are ready for some sort of larger commitment.
What would a Burzek wedding look like? There’s obviously some fun that could come along with that. We’ve had a chance to see a lot of relationship progress on both Chicago Fire and Chicago Med this season without those two shows fundamentally changing, so it would of course be nice to see a little more of that here on Chicago PD, as well.
As for how much we could get this season, as of right now we’d settle for a few small moments that hint towards something larger coming around the bend. It’s clear that there is not too much time left in the season, especially with the Bingham case taking shape and with Olinsky in trouble. If the writers could just give some sort of indication that Burzek will have more of a presence in season 6 (provided it happens, which seems likely), we’ll be more than happy to have that.
