Outlander notes: On Cesar Domboy, Lauren Lyle, a Great American Read, and more

Cesar Domboy

Ready to dive into this weekend’s Outlander notes? We’re very pleased to be able to share a few different stories today, but we’ll kick things off by looking at what is the biggest show-related event happening this weekend: Sasnak City, a convention in Kansas City. Funny story — we literally just figured out that “Sasnak” is Kansas backwards and our mind is officially blown.

Anyhow, we know that there are probably going to be a few other fun highlights that we get a chance to see over this weekend, but we like to think that the video below is something rather special. Via Outlander HQ on Twitter, this is a chance to see a lively discussion revolving around Lauren Lyle’s character of Marsali and the love that she’s found despite playing a character who, in the early going, was so adversarial to Jamie and Claire.

What we love about virtually any panel that we see from the Outlander cast is that there’s always a great sense of humor and a positive, giving relationship between the attendees and the people on stage. It’s always a fairly relaxed, fun atmosphere.

Hopefully, there will be some more highlights to share come tomorrow!

Support the Great American Read

If you love the work of Diana Gabaldon (and you have to, even if you just love the show and haven’t read the books), you have to appreciate the fact that the first Outlander book made PBS’ Great American Read list. You can check out the full list of selections in the graphic below or by clicking the link in the tweet. Voting is going to begin on May 22, so keep that in mind over the next month or so.

Congratulations to Diana on this honor! In between F. Scott Fitzgerald, Harper Lee, and Toni Morrison there are some legendary authors on this list. Also, there’s some others including George R.R. Martin who, like Diana, have TV shows out there based on their work.

Finally, best of luck to Caitriona Balfe!

She is competing this weekend in the London Marathon, which is of course no small feat! She’s raised a ton of money for World Child Cancer and she certainly deserves all the well-wishes in the world.

What’s also so shocking about her run is that, per Balfe herself, she has to resume filming early the next morning almost immediately after her run.

If you missed it…
