Grey’s Anatomy renewed for season 15 by ABC
In a statement confirming this news, ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey had the following to say:
“Grey’s Anatomy has a special place in my heart and millions of viewers feel the same way … Thanks to fiercely loyal fans who have been on this journey since the beginning, and new generations of viewers who continue to discover the joy and drama of Grey Sloan Memorial, the show is as strong as ever.”
There is certainly not a whole lot in the way of drama right now when it comes to this news, largely because of the fact that Grey’s Anatomy remains the most-successful drama series on ABC and one of the biggest on all primetime TV. To go along with that, series star Ellen Pompeo recently signed on for a new two-year deal that is going to keep her on board the series until the end of season 16. Grey’s Anatomy as a show is not going anywhere in the near future and a big part of the reason why is the ability of the cast and the writers to keep people continually invested.
Are there some big tests coming in season 15? Certainly, with one of the biggest ones being trying to figure out a way to move on past the notable departures of longtime cast members Jessica Capshaw (Arizona) and Sarah Drew (April). We do worry about the audience suffering, but so far the series has been able to withstand many cast changes and come out on the other side okay.
