Arrow season 7, Legends of Tomorrow season 4 will have behind-the-scenes changes

When Arrow season 7 and Legends of Tomorrow season 4 premiere on The CW next season, there will be changes at the top behind the scenes.

According to Entertainment Weekly, longtime Arrow staffer Beth Schwartz will be the sole showrunner for the upcoming batch of episodes. Schwartz has been with the series starting with the very first season and has long been a fantastic presence behind the scenes and with fans. With all of this in mind, she really is the perfect person for the part.

What does this mean for the recent showrunning team of Marc Guggenheim and Wendy Mericle? Mericle will be exiting the series, whereas Guggenheim will transition over into an executive consultant role.

In a statement, Arrowverse executive producer Greg Berlanti had the following to say on some of the changes:

“We are all so incredibly thrilled to announce Beth Schwartz as the new showrunner of Arrow … She has been a source of some of the show’s most exciting and memorable moments from the beginning. Beth is a true leader and a captivating storyteller, and we all can’t wait for the audience to see what she and her team dream up as they take Arrow into its next big chapter.”

As for Legends of Tomorrow season 4 the changes are a little less severe. Guggenheim will move over to the same executive consultant position while Phil Klemmer will serve as the sole showrunner moving forward. We’re not upset about this at all given how some of Klemmer’s genius really came to light with season 3. In between Avalance, Zari, and Beebo, he helped to come up with what were some of the greatest ideas we’ve seen on The CW all year long.

Why make changes?

There are often many reasons, but for Guggenheim this may just be him deciding to take a little off of his plate after such an extreme workload. We also don’t necessarily think that high of Arrow season 6 at the moment so a few changes to the formula could do the show after six years a little bit of good.
