Scorpion season 5 renewal hopes: Will CBS give series another go?

Following tonight’s season 4 finale, is it possible that there is going to be a Scorpion season 5 renewal at some point in the near future? We know that there are many different reasons to want it!

Unfortunately, at the moment CBS is not tipping their hat one way or another as to whether or not the series is going to be coming back. Based on the ratings along, there is some reason for some concern. After all, the ratings for the fourth season are now pretty substantially from the third season, which is in turn down versus the third season. Maybe it is because of the later timeslot or because there are so many viewers watching after the fact, but for one reason or another Scorpion is a show that has had some problems retaining viewers over the past few years.

If there are a few things that it has going for it, it starts with a solid DVR performance. Beyond that, it is also faring well when in some streaming numbers. It’s also the perfect show for syndication, if for no other reason than that you can watch these episodes pretty much whenever you want without an understanding of what is going on around them. CBS will likely take its time over the course of the next month figuring out if they want to renew Scorpion or cancel it; beyond that, they may make a firm decision come May when the upfronts happen.

Personally, we’re always going to root for a season 5 just because we do think that there is a whole lot more story here worth telling — also, from a programming standpoint it would be incredibly exciting to see a 100th episode of Scorpion. That would allow for the cast and crew to do something big in commemorating what’s been a crazy journey to get them to this point.
