Saturday Night Live: Donald Glover to host, perform as Childish Gambino May 5

Fred

Going into tonight’s new episode of Saturday Night Liveit was pretty darn easy to assume that there wasn’t going to be another installment airing next week. After all, there was no indication entering the show about an April 21 and, by and large, the series doesn’t choose to announce their hosts only a week in advance. Our sentiment was that either the series would choose to announce one for the final week in April or just hold off until May, when they could officially kick off the home stretch for the remainder of the season.

So, what did the producers select as the next episode? May 5. That means, alas, that there is a hiatus coming over the next two weeks.

The host for this upcoming episode is … Donald Glover! Also, the musical guest is … Childish Gambino! Basically, Donald’s doing everything. We love him so we definitely consider this to be great news. He’s someone who has been on our personal SNL hosting wishlist for a long time since he is so multi-talented. He got his start working alongside Tina Fey as a writer on 30 Rock, and following that went on to do many years as Troy Barnes on NBC’s Community. Following that, he helped to create Atlanta and his career elevated to new heights. He’s now also got a big role in Solo: A Star Wars Story, which he will be promoting coming up in the future.

We anticipate a lot of interesting, creative ideas and then also a really funny monologue. While he doesn’t do it so much anymore, there was a time in which Glover did more standup comedy and should be very familiar with the SNL environment in that sense. If you love SNL, don’t you have to be psyched about this?
