Law & Order: SVU season 19 episode 20 is airing on NBC come Wednesday, May 2, and with that it’ll have the task of kicking off the series into May sweeps.

As to what you can expect to see in terms of the story of the hour, let’s go ahead and say that this one (entitled “The Book of Esther” is going to be a big one for Kelli Giddish as Amanda Rollins. She is going to do just about everything within her power to help a captive girl in a devastation position. There isn’t too much more that needs to be known about this story for it to be compelling; really, we’ve already explained much of what is in the attached synopsis:

05/02/2018 (09:00PM – 10:00PM) (Wednesday) : Rollins (Kelli Giddish) races to rescue a girl being held captive by her father (guest star Ray McKinnon). Also starring Mariska Hargitay, Ice T and Peter Scanavino. Also guest starring Rebekah Kennedy (Esther Labott), Brandy Zarle (Debbie Labott), Sami Molly Bray (Rachel Labott) and Eric Elizaga (Dr. Hale).

McKinnon is the episode’s noteworthy guest star, and you know him acting-wise most likely for Sons of Anarchy. Meanwhile, he was also an executive producer on Rectify for many years.

The title “The Book of Esther” is obviously one of two meanings. For starters. Esther is likely the name of the little girl at the heart of the story. Meanwhile, the book of Esther is a part of the Old Testament of the Bible. It would hardly come as a surprise if there are some sort of religious undertones with this episode and the story that it chooses to present. The case could be tied to religion somehow; even if it’s not, the themes could be tied to the Book in some way.

You do have a while to still wait for this episode to air, but for the time being we can go ahead and say that we like the fact that SVU is gearing up for the end of this season by finding some more personal stories for the main characters to bring to the table.
