Does Stana Katic’s new movie project impact Absentia season 2 at all?

Stana Katic

There’s some good news breaking today in the world of Stana Katic — the former Castle star and also current Absentia lead has signed on to a new movie project!

According to a new report from Deadline, Katic is going to be working alongside Sarah Megan Thomas and Radhika Apte in a new, currently-untitled World War II spy drama filming this spring. The project is based on some real-life spies who were in Winston Churchill’s “secret army,” and this movie already feels somewhat like a female-fronted 20th-century version of AMC’s Turn: Washington’s Spies.

Katie is going to be playing a British intelligence officer by the name of Vera Atkins, and also two women she sends over to France as spies in Thomas’ Virginia Hall and also Apte’s Noor Inayat Khan. These three are all involved in some various missions in order to shake things up and change the war once and for all.

It’s easy to be excited for Katic, and beyond that, hopeful that this movie turns out to be an interesting, fascinating look at a forgotten part of history for many.

We also know that there are many TV fans out there who are wondering what this means in terms of Absentia season 2 and, for the time being, the answer is “not much.” The earliest that we’ve heard in terms of a season 2 start date for the Sony / Amazon series is August, and unless this is an extremely long production we have a hard time thinking that the two schedules are going to collide too much, if at all. This is one of the luxuries of doing a show like this that has a shorter ten-episode run: It offers Katic and other cast members a chance to go off and do some other projects in the interim. As of right now Absentia still has not even been formally renewed, so it’s hard for the cast and crew to reconvene until that does officially happen.

So, for now, just rejoice if you love Stana that you are going to have some opportunities to see her in a wide array of different ways coming up.
