Absentia season 2 renewal speculation: When should it happen?
Now, with that in mind CarterMatt wants to dive into when that could actually come about? For the past few months it’s felt fairly clear that the Stana Katic series (which streams here in America on Amazon) will be coming back eventually. However, at the same time there isn’t a clear time-table for the official renewal. There’s already been a new showrunner hired, and that is obviously a positive sign of a strong forward momentum. The same goes for the reports that there is filming already set for later this year.
Is it still prudent to be skeptical? Sure, mostly because nobody wants to take a renewal for granted or make false promises, but it does make sense at this point to expect more episodes. There have been reports out there of a possible two-season renewal, and if that’s the case it could explain why there is a longer wait for an announcement. The more seasons the network is picking up, and the more negotiations and schedules have to be figured out. There is so much legal work that has to be done when it comes to the world of renewals; getting into the finer details of that is one of the least-exciting things that we could possibly do so we will skip that, but jsut know that these things take time.
Ultimately, the fair assumption is that an Absentia renewal will officially happen before the start of filming, and probably at some point over the next few months. It’s a wide time-frame, but for the time being there is no obvious need in which to rush it. The important thing is that nobody is stalled out on making season 2 happen because of the wait for a renewal; for now, it seems as though everyone is moving forward with more episodes in mind. There will most likely be a big announcement made whenever it happens in the form of a press release; if Amazon or studio Sony waits until closer to the show starts filming, they may be able to announce casting at the same time if there are some new characters entering the world. Given that there is a new showrunner we wouldn’t be shocked if some new faces end up entering the mix.

Based on the timing of filming, as of right now we would anticipate Absentia season 2 airing/streaming at some point in 2019. Just like with season 1, it will likely vary depending on country.
