We’re back with another edition of our ongoing Renewal Hopes series here at CarterMatt, which is all about taking a network-by-network approach to some of the shows on the air and whether or not they’ll come back for another season.
Consider this article an extension to our ongoing Renewal Watch video series, which we have for you at the bottom of this article. (If you enjoy this, be sure to subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube for more.)
Designated Survivor – While on paper it doesn’t seem as thought the Kiefer Sutherland series has a great chance of renewal, it’s actually the big star in Kiefer that gives the ABC show more of a chance. This show has great DVR ratings and to go along with that, it is popular internationally. We like to think that some of this ultimately matters.
Agents of SHIELD – For now, we’re not altogether confident that the Marvel series does come back … but we’re cautiously optimistic. One of the biggest reasons for that is the apparent desire by Disney to keep it on the air at ABC. Also, ratings expectations are lower on Friday nights.
Station 19 – While it’s not a lock at the moment, we do feel fairly confident that we’re going to get a chance to see the show again. The Grey’s Anatomy name is going to help it significantly to get that additional batch of episodes.
Deception – It’s a toss-up for now, but with the right timeslot and promotion we do think it’s worth another go at ABC. They do need another procedural, after all.
Kevin (Probably) Saves the World – For the time being, we’re not altogether confident just because of the fact that it ended earlier in the year. It was an optimistic, hopeful show, but it just didn’t connect with enough viewers and it may be forgotten about by the time sweeps rolls around.
For the People – It looked like it was on the rise earlier this spring because of Roseanne boosting the night’s numbers, but it fell back to earth Tuesday. We’re not sure that we see it coming back.
As for some other shows, Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away with Murder seem to be locks to come back. As for comedies, most of them should return — though Speechless, Alex Inc., and Splitting Up Together are not sure things.
