Is Meghan Markle’s engagement improving Suits season 7 ratings?
Despite the added publicity for the since-retired actress, it doesn’t seem as though Suits has repeated any benefits at all — at least when it comes to some of the live ratings here in America.
Through three episodes airing this spring Suits season 7 has averaged around a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic and also a little bit over a million viewers. While these are certainly respectable numbers for a cable series these days, they also do represent a drop from the summer portion of the season last year and are the lowest ratings consistently for the USA drama on record. Based on these alone, it doesn’t seem as though off-screen headlines have anything to do with the performance of the series itself. Maybe that changes for the wedding, but we don’t necessarily foresee a huge jump.
The biggest reason we would cite as for the big ratings drop at the moment has to be what we’ve dealt with when it comes to a long hiatus. Anytime that you put a show off of the air for a substantial stretch of time you are running a risk that, in turn, there are some viewers who don’t find their way back to you. This appears to be some of what is plaguing Suits at this very moment, coupled with of course the fact that we are simply in an era now where it is almost impossible to have huge audiences anymore. There are so many more options in terms of content to watch, and then beyond that so many different ways in which to watch said content. There is more DVR viewing and streaming than ever.
