Welcome to our afternoon edition of CarterMatt Outlander notes, where we’re going to break down some of the biggest news of the day … starting today with a very notable riverbank scene in Drums of Autumn.
This scene is one of the most-notable (at least of a physical sort) within the books. So, with that in mind, will it be included in the show in some capacity? That is something that virtually everyone involved with the show is being coy about for the time being … though we have gotten a small suggestion via executive producer Maril Davis that it will be somewhat different from what it was in the books.
Speaking via Entertainment Tonight at the recent Emmy panel event, Davis suggested that there may be some changes to the scene, in part due to the fact that North Carolina and Scotland are very different places. Such a scene may have been easier to film in warmer temperatures; however, the idea of trying to film something in the riverbank in Scotland may not be altogether easy in late fall / early winter.
Our ultimate interpretation of Davis’ answer, coupled with responses from Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe, is that something is there. Yet, it may not be the same exact something that you would expect.
Watch the full video at the bottom of this article, and remember that as of this week, one other extremely-notable Outlander scene is being filmed in the big meeting between Jamie and Brianna. That’s going to be presumably far later in the season, at least in comparison to where the Riverbank scene would be.
Attached to the recent Outlander season 3 DVD / Blu-Ray release was further confirmation that “fall 2018” is when the series is going to be coming back on Starz. While it may have been a given that this is when we were getting it (we already knew that it would be later this year), we’re glad to see it becoming even more of an acknowledgement.
Of course, with this being said we would’ve loved if Starz had made it a little clearer as to what month if they weren’t going to give us a day. Unless the series is going to be continuing into either the holidays or the new year, it’s a little challenging to think about it coming on the air after September. We feel that September 9 is the earliest it could premiere based on the schedule of another Starz series in Power.
