Outlander season 4 films pivotal Sam Heughan – Sophie Skelton scene
CarterMatt has some Outlander season 4 filming news to report today, and it feels almost like an understatement to say that it’s big this time around.
To be a little more specific, the Starz series has officially filmed the key meeting scene with Jamie and Brianna! Executive producer Maril Davis seemingly confirmed this with a post on Twitter Tuesday, one using a line from the book Drums of Autumn in “sorry, lass. I’m a marrit man.” This is what Jamie first says to Brianna, not knowing or understanding precisely who she is. Soon after that, she starts to clue him in. This is a great moment from the books and one that could turn out to be one of the best moments of the entire season.
Weeks ago at the Emmy Q&A panel, Sam Heughan said that this scene was coming up at some point in the near future. We had previously assumed that this scene had actually filmed before now, but we are certainly happy to get 100% confirmation on the subject now. It’s a moment that could be one of the most talked-about for the entire season. It was written by executive producers Toni Graphia and Matthew B. Roberts, and it should air within the home stretch of season 4 based on the timing of it. You’ll have to wait longer for it this season, unless production really filmed this out of order, than you did for the Print Shop scene during season 3.
The most important thing that comes from this Jamie – Brianna meeting is that it gives the two of them something more that they need within this world: Family. Establishing a new world is a big part of what is important about this season and Brianna is going to be an important player in that. We’re hoping that this will be emotional, but also a little bit unexpected whether it be in reaction or in dialogue.
Unfortunately, this is probably a moment that you will have to wait until later this year to see. Knowing the magnitude of this for the story, it’s hard to really imagine Starz wanting to give it away in a teaser or a trailer. Instead, they can just promote it by showing moments leading up to the event. That’s what they did with the Jamie – Claire reunion, and based on the ratings that came in for that episode it’s pretty clear that this strategy worked.
