Ink Master: Angels preview: Chad Newsom, Bri Walker, Nickole Ashlock face off

Nikki Simpson, Ryan Ashley, and Kelly Doty

On Tuesday night’s new episode of Ink Master: Angels, we’re going to be seeing Chad Newsom, Bri, Walker, and Nickole Ashlock all square off in a battle to see who will emerge out of Memphis a champ.

So who are these three artists? Let’s just say that this is going to be a very different competition than most of what we’ve seen through the series so far. To be a little more specific, Chad and Bri are a couple! They tattoo together, they live together, and they also raise a family together. Yet, they also both want to do well in the competition and win! This is going to be fun just because it’s a different sort of rivalry than you often see on this series — one of them will make it past the first round, but even still there is a chance that neither one of them is going to be at the Angel Face-Off at the very end of the episode competing for an opportunity to be on Ink Master next season.

This is where Nickole really comes into play as a contender. She’s coming into this competition without much of a history with either Bri or Chad, but she also does have a lot of skill and ability. She also has a desire to try and win this for her parents, as her mother has been battling a myriad of health issues and she wants to do something to both make her happy and help take care of her a little bit more.

The theme for the first challenge is pretty simple: Trying to figure out the right way to tattoo vintage microphones. Of the three contenders it’s pretty clear (at least for us) that the most creative one is courtesy of Chad — he did something that was a little off the beaten path when it comes to the theme, really to the point where you wonder whether or not he hit the challenge. Bri and Nickole did largely the same sort of design, though Nickole’s seems to have a little bit more technical proficiency. We’d probably select Chad’s just on the basis of doing something different, but it’s important to remember here that we’re not a tattoo artist! Therefore, we can’t judge things when it comes to technical ability or many of the other things that the artists are bringing to the table. We just know what we like.
