Call the Midwife season 7 episode 5 preview (PBS): Tokophobia and smallpox

Call the Midwife season 7 casting

Want to see what’s going to be coming up on Call the Midwife season 7 episode 5? We’ve made it to the halfway point of the season and signs point to this being a time of great change.

For starters, Trixie now seems to be out of the picture after deciding that she needed to go away to recover. In reality, this is a move made because of Helen George’s real-life pregnancy; we do not want to spoil whether or not she will be back later this season so with that in mind, we suggest that you keep watching!

With the departure of Trixie comes the arrival of another important character to Call the Midwife — Barbara! She and Tom are coming back to the series after the two spent some time in Birmingham. They will try to get back into the swing of things rather quickly, though it may be a little more challenging that they would imagine.

The Call the Midwife season 7 episode 5 synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below offers up some more insight — especially when it comes to some of the medical cases that you’re going to see:

Lucille tries to win the trust of a mother who suffers from tokophobia, a morbid fear of giving birth. Nurse Crane and Dr. Turner try to find a sailor at large in Poplar and rumored to have smallpox. Violet and Fred plan a picnic for the parish.

Obviously, you do have a lot happening within this episode and we can tell you that the missing sailor is going to be one of the most surprisingly heartfelt moments of the season. There are few shows out there that cultivate great story-of-the-week plots quite like Call the Midwife. The performances are powerful and by the end of the hour, you may start to see some of these characters in a new light. Diverting expectations is one of the things that show executive producer Heidi Thomas does best.

Unfortunately, we have a feeling that there are going to be even more heartbreaking reveals by the end of the season. If you love Call the Midwife you have to go ahead and be prepared for that.
