Criminal Minds season 13, Designated Survivor season 2 ratings: The latest

Criminal Minds season 13 cast

How are Criminal Minds season 13 and Designated Survivor season 2 faring in the ratings right now? Are they any closer to a renewal than they were? That’s what we are going to be discussing today.

Based on the most-recent ratings from Wednesday, April 4, CarterMatt is not altogether certain that too much has changed. When it comes to Criminal Minds, the bad news is that the series did slip down to a 1.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic from its most-recent rating of a 1.1 the week before. Yet, we don’t think that this is going to stop the crime drama from being renewed for a season 14. Production is already planning as though there will be another season and that bit of confidence does go a long way.

When it comes to Designated Survivor, meanwhile, there is more of an interesting debate going on just in terms of whether or not the show should be coming back for an additional season. Wednesday night’s new episode of the Kiefer Sutherland drama ended up posting a 0.7 rating; on the virtue of that alone, the easy assumption to make is that the show’s cancellation is pretty imminent. Yet, there is a little bit more going on here than first meets the eye, especially when you look at more of a big-picture sense. Designated Survivor remains a series that performs very well in terms of DVR ratings; beyond just that, we’re also looking at a show here that performs incredibly well overseas and has a hefty streaming audience. When you’ve got a series starring Kiefer Sutherland, understandably you should be fairly hesitant to let it go. It’s more than likely producing great ratings for you, so why wouldn’t you want to keep it around for as long as humanly possible?

Ultimately, the fate of both Designated Survivor and Criminal Minds should be determined come May when the upfronts happen. As of now we’re both cautiously optimistic about the future for both, with a little more hope geared in the direction of Criminal Minds. It’s just been around for so long that it is hard to imagine CBS ever being okay with it going out with a sudden cancellation or a whimper. If they did, that would not bode well for many of the other shows that they have like an NCIS or a Hawaii Five-0. Viewers watch to see a full story through, and not to see it clipped off at some point before its time.
