Grey’s Anatomy season 14 bringing back Sarah Utterback as Nurse Olivia
According to a new report coming in right now via Entertainment Weekly, Sarah Utterback is poised to return for at least one episode as Nurse Olivia Harper, a character who has not surfaced on the show since all the back in 2009. It’s actually not too often you hear that much from nurses on the show, largely because of the fact that almost the entire focus here is on the doctors.
Olivia’s an interesting character when you think about some of the past connections that she has to other people within the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital — notably Alex, who she was involved with at one point (to go along with George). With that in mind, isn’t it clear that her return is going to come with a certain degree of awkwardness? It definitely feels that way. She will also be coming back with her son, which we imagine carries with it its own unique perspective.
Personally, we are all for as many different reprisals of early-season Grey’s Anatomy characters as possible. They are a true gift to some of the diehard fans who have been watching the series from the beginning; beyond that, there are also so many other viewers who will remember the early seasons now than even just a few years ago. There are thousands of people every day binge-watching their way through Grey’s Anatomy on Netflix, which is one of the biggest reasons why the show has maintained such a big following. Even when it does lose viewers (which is rare, but it still happens much like it does for almost every other show), it does find a way to get some of them back through other channels.
Given that there are still several more episodes to go before we get around to the finale, who knows? It’s certainly possible that some other familiar faces could join us, as well. At this point, it feels like almost anyone is fair game for a return — except for maybe Katherine Heigl. As a matter of fact, the writers almost included in the show earlier this season a good reason for Izzie to never turn up again in how Alex likes to imagine she is now. Seeing her within the flesh would in some ways diminish or destroy the visage that he has.
Some of Utterback’s other TV credits include Family Guy, Medium, and Reception. Overall, it’ll be pretty happy to see her again within the world of the ABC show.
