Shades of Blue season 3 premiere date revealed; Jennifer Lopez series ending

Shades of Blue season 3 premiere date

Want to see the Shades of Blue season 3 premiere date? We finally have that information within, plus some rather distressing news to go along with that.

NBC confirmed on Wednesday that the latest batch of episodes featuring Jennifer Lopez is going to premiere on Sunday, June 17 at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time, confirming that the show is airing this summer for the first time. To go along with that, this is also going to be the final season for the show. There were some rumors about this when some cast members started to circle some other projects, but given that the show was at least a consistent player through two seasons, we thought for a while that there was a chance that it could make it on the air a little while longer.

In a statement confirming the end of the show, Lopez (who is also an executive producer) had the following to pass along:

“We crafted a poetic three-season arc on how [Harlee Santos and her] journey ends, which is true redemption … The way only Harlee could have done it — the hard way, the road less traveled.

“Playing Harlee strengthened me and helped me grow into a more self-assured woman. It’s crazy how some parts permeate your soul and change you forever and for that I am grateful.”

Shades of Blue has always been somewhat of an underdog series for NBC, never starting off in the fall even in spite of having one of the biggest stars in television at the front of the cast. This show is dark, gritty, but actually still perfect for the summer given that there is not really all that much in the way of competition for it. While we are a little worried about the pool of viewers that could be around come June, at least the series will have a chance to go out with a big finale rather than facing some sort of abrupt cancellation down the line. Based on the tone of Lopez’s statement it sounds as though this is something that has been in the works for a little while.

Will we miss Shades of Blue? Certainly, both in terms of bringing something new to the cop genre but also has a platform to get big stars back to network TV. While we know that we’re seeing more and more familiar faces flock to cable, it would be nice to see a major network be able to court even more established talent with smart, risky, and super-interesting content.
