The 100 season 5 promo features the world on the brink

The 100 season 5 promo

“No good guys. No bad guys. Only survivors.”

This quote is the way in which The CW is promoting The 100 season 5 leading up to its premiere on the network on April 24 (it’s just three weeks away!), and for the most part we consider it to be quite effective. Signs point towards this being one of the most dramatic iterations of the series to date (and that’s saying something since last season they were all facing the end of the world), one that trades in violence and makes you wonder if there is any sort of society to be had at this point? Many of these characters have been off in space, forging their own alliances and figuring out how to live over the past six years. Is there anything awaiting them now back on the Earth? Clarke has been down there rediscovering herself and forming what constitutes a new life; now, forces are set to collide and there’s going to be battles between different groups quite like you’ve never seen before.

The tagline for this show is mostly effective because survival has long been at the forefront of what The 100 is. This is not a show that paints a particularly rosy worldview, and it’s somewhat rare when it comes to The CW in that sense. While there’s certainly still hope within this universe it’s still a brutal existence  including an angry Octavia leading a charge. This should be a huge season for her, though also for Clarke (given her circumstances) and Bellamy, who really couldn’t be a more different a person than who he was at the time of the pilot.

Will The 100 season 5 deliver the ratings?

That is one of the biggest questions that CarterMatt has entering the season, given that it is one of the few remaining true bubble shows on The CW. Quality-wise there’s enough here to keep the story going, but with this level of scale and ambition this probably isn’t the sort of series that can continue with lower numbers. It’s going to benefit in the early going from airing following another big hit on the network in The Flash, but for the final weeks of the season it could be airing on its own within the summer months when most people in this demo are off school and away from the TV. That is when the rubber will meet the road.

If you love The 100 and want to keep it around, be sure to either watch live, DVR it, or check it out on The CW’s site after the fact. Do something to help monetize it rather than just finding a version without commercials.
