Instinct, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Madam Secretary plummet on Easter
To be specific here, we’re looking at CBS, which completely tanked versus some of the competition on the holiday. Take, for example, Instinct losing basically half of its audience with just a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic, or both NCIS: Los Angeles and Madam Secretary sliding all the way to a 0.8 and 0.5 rating, respectively. These are some of the lowest-rated episodes to date for all three shows and reminds us, yet again, that airing on Easter is never a great move.
Yet, with some of these CBS shows they really don’t have all that much of a choice. CBS doesn’t want to air new episodes in the midst of Super Bowl / awards season on Sunday night, and with that in mind they more or less need to air new episodes on Easter to wrap up these runs by the end of May sweeps.
As for the specific future for some of these series on the air, there is certainly cause for some concern when it comes to both Instinct and Madam Secretary. With that being said, NCIS: Los Angeles is probably safe — remember that all shows are in part functions of their lead-in and this is a series that hasn’t had all that great of a lead-in for the entirety of the past year or so. It’s the #1 show on the night and we have a hard time thinking that the network is going to do away with that right now. We just think that the smarter move here is going to be moving NCIS: Los Angeles back to 8:00 p.m. Eastern time and with that, allowing other shows to benefit more from it as opposed to letting a new series set up the night. We like Instinct a great deal but the ratings for this week especially are worrisome. Hopefully, they bounce back on the other side of the holiday.

For those wondering, Jesus Christ Superstar Live! finished the night with a 1.6 rating, which was easily enough to take the prize for the week.
