Madam Secretary season 4 episode 16 review: Gotta love dogs

Madam Secretary season 4 episode 16

This week’s Madam Secretary season 4 episode 16 brought you a number of different stories, with all of them really spanning a number of different topics and venues.

For us, though, there were few as appealing as getting a chance to see Elizabeth McCord cozying up with some dogs as a part of a new initiative in order to raise awareness in embassy funding — something that was essential in making sure that drug-sniffing dogs could continue to be employed. In the midst of preparing for this PSA it also just turned out that Daisy bonded with one of the dogs in Waffles. Even though there was a lot that was going on within her life, she still figured out a way in which to bring the dog home to add some other sort of comfort to her life.

All of this embassy promotion came on the heels of the 20th anniversary of the American embassy bombing in Mali, something that obviously meant quite a bit to the State Department. There were many different solemn moments over the course of the episode as we saw those lost be honored. Madam Secretary does a great job of figuring out a way in which to incorporate some of these moments into the story — it’s political, but at the same time historical.

As for Jason McCord…

Well, most of his story, and Henry’s story, was all about whether or not he would break up with his new girlfriend Piper. This was about seeing if Jason was going to be able to figure out what he wanted out of life … and we’re not sure that he did just yet. We did still love the moments between Jason and his father, especially since Henry is often caught up with some of his other work the he doesn’t get stories like this with Jason all that often.

CarterMatt Verdict

Madam Secretary season 4 episode 16 ended up being a really good episode of the show as a whole. We don’t necessarily think that there was anything substantial that happened over the course of the hour, but at the same time there didn’t really need to be. This was more of an episode meant to highlight what happened in Mali. It felt like this episode was more standalone in nature just because this was Easter and the producers didn’t want to put anything too spoilery on the air in case viewers ended up missing it.

Above all else, though, our big takeaway from this episode was that we do really care about Daisy and Matt and want to see the two get together. Also, dogs make anything better.
