Instinct episode 4 spoilers: John Doman playing Dylan’s father

Moving into Instinct episode 4 airing on CBS in one week’s time, the series is going to introduce you to another important character: Dylan’s father. John Doman (who you may know from The Affair or from playing Carmine Falcone on Gotham), is going to be appearing on the show as this character. Unfortunately, we cannot say that things are going to be altogether rosy for these two. Dylan doesn’t have a great relationship with dear ol’ dad Roger, even though the two both have history in law enforcement. That common ground apparently isn’t enough to bring either one of them together.

The Instinct episode 4 synopsis that CarterMatt has for you below does offer up some additional insight when it comes to the story ahead:

“I Heart New York” – Dr. Dylan Reinhart and Det. Lizzie Needham are reassigned to a murder case in Central Park when their investigation into a chemical attack on the subway is taken over by an FBI team led by Dylan’s estranged father, Roger (John Doman). However, Dylan can’t shake the feeling that the cases are related, on INSTINCT, Sunday, April 8 (8:00-9:00, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

While the case at the heart of this episode sounds intriguing enough, what we’re a little more curious about is the origin story for both Roger and Dylan’s estrangement. On paper these two look as though they should be able to get along — they’re both smart, successful, and if the father is anything at all like the son, he should have quite a bit together in his personal life. Yet, this is another reminder that even when things appear okay on the surface, there may still be something a little more sinister lurking underneath.

We’ll see if we get another chance to see Doman beyond this episode — we certainly hope that there will be given that unwrapping a relationship as complicated as father and son is going to take more then just one episode to explore.
