Madam Secretary season 4 episode 16: Elizabeth and a viral dog video

Going into Madam Secretary season 4 episode 16, we didn’t imagine that we would be typing out some of the words that are in this article’s title — yet, here we are, discussing the idea of Elizabeth McCord trying to go after people who hang out on the internet and like looking at cute dogs.

So, why would Elizabeth want to take part in something like this in the first place? It is actually tied to what is her latest mission in trying to keep some embassy funding all over the world. The embassies are currently in need of greater resources; in turn, drug-sniffing dogs are one of the best resources out there. They fill an important void (it’s hard to replicate the work that they do), but the problem is that they often cost a pretty penny since you have to find the right dogs and have them properly trained.

Here is where the dog video, an apparent product of Matt and Daisy, starts to come into play. Their theory is that in doing this video, they are going to be able to get the interest of the public by featuring Elizabeth alongside a dog. From there, she can talk about needing to have more dogs as a way to get more funding. It’s a little bit of bait-and-switch, but sometimes don’t you have to do whatever you consider to be necessary in order to get the job done?  All of this sounds fun, provided of course that the video is even made. At some point before the end of the episode, it’s certainly possible that the State Department finds the tools in order to do whatever they want without having to use this bit of trickery.

Granted, at this point CarterMatt is firmly Team Dog Video — everyone is a little bit better off getting to see happy dogs on TV. We’ll see come tomorrow night precisely what happens with this story, but if we get a chance to see some cute dogs we will be all the happier for it.
