NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 episode 17 video: ‘The Monster’ may freak you out

NCIS: Los Angeles season 9 episode 17 is airing on CBS come Sunday night, and judging from the title alone in “The Monster” there is a reason to be afraid. As a matter of fact, after watching the closing minutes of this episode it feels almost as though this episode would be well-suited for Hannibal or Criminal Minds.

Before getting to much further into this, one of the things that is worth being excited about when it comes to this episode comes via the setting alone: The Los Angeles Theatre. Anyone out there who loves iconic venues in the city being a part of the show should absolutely love this. It’s a downtown institution that has been there for decades … but it’s also seen better days than what it’s being used for in this episode.

First, Deeks and Hidoko arrive to the venue only to find a woman clearly distraught and holding a weapon. They find a way to calm that situation, only for Deeks to then discover a bizarre tableau featuring a body positioned on stage. Deeks has been a part of the show for a long time now, and with that, he’s seen some stuff. It feels obvious to say that but think of it more in this context: For something to freak him out it has to be pretty darn hardcore. This qualifies as that, and the scariest thing is that this could just be the tip of the iceberg. This is a case that could dive into the past of a couple of characters, while at the same time also offer up a little more insight into the rigors of this job.

Also, we’d like to see more of the reasoning behind the Deeks/Hidoko pairing; is there something else Kensi is working on this week in order to change things up or is this somehow Shay Mosley’s doing?
