Will Game of Thrones season 8 feature Tobias Menzies at all?

With a show that has so many different characters, it wouldn’t be altogether shocking if Game of Thrones doesn’t have time over season 8 to address every single loose end that is out there. Edmure Tully may just be one of those loose ends. The character, played by Outlander actor Tobias Menzies, seemingly still finds himself imprisoned at the hands of House Frey. Unless Arya did something during her time at The Twins Walder that we don’t quite know about, he’s still there.

As of right now Menzies has not been confirmed to be returning to the HBO series, and given his recent joining of The Crown season 3, his schedule is going to be rather booked through the end of the year. There just isn’t going to be a whole lot of time in the schedule for him to pop on over and do additional work, even if we like to hope that he somehow did this already in secret. Remember, though, that Menzies has already shot another series in The Terror and in between doing that and promoting it, how much room is there really in his schedule?

Speaking to Digital Spy, the actor certainly sounded uncertain as to whether or not he would be coming back for more:

“The honest answer is, I have no idea [if Edmure will return]. He’s obviously somewhere in a prison, he’s still around alive somewhere. They’re pretty stingy with their information and I’ve not heard anything from them.”

This certainly sounds as though Menzies hasn’t done anything with the series as of yet, even though we would like to imagine that HBO is just telling him to be coy. That’s the dream, anyway.

No matter if we get more Edmure or not, we’re certainly well aware that there are plenty of other notable characters on Game of Thrones that should push forward the story of the final season. We suppose that, at least for now, we should just be happy that Benjen Stark and Gendry are a part of the story after being previously thought of as ghosts.
