Supergirl season 3 episode 14 spoilers: A copycat Toyman arrives

Supergirl season 3 episode 14

There’s a chance that you may have heard some Supergirl season 3 episode 14 details already. This episode is entitled “Schott Through the Heart” and it is being marketed largely with the presence of Laurie Metcalf front and center. We understand that. She’s coming off of an Oscar nomination for Lady Bird and she’s also going to be Winn’s estranged mother Mary, who arrives in National City seemingly interested in forging a new connection with her son. (Why is it that Metcalf keeps playing characters named Mary? That’s also her character’s name on The Big Bang Theory.)

The new Supergirl season 3 episode 14 synopsis that CarterMatt has for you offers up a few more details surrounding what is coming up:

When Winn’s (Jeremy Jordan) father dies, his estranged mother, Mary (guest star Laurie Metcalf), reappears trying to reconnect and to explain why she abandoned him all those years ago. Winn is too embittered from his rough childhood to forgive her but when a copycat Toyman attacks, the two must work together to stop him.

There are a couple of things to know with the synopsis in mind. A recent Supergirl promo featured Mary telling her son that his now-deceased father is the reason why she was out of touch for so many years; she claimed that it was because of him that she was afraid to get too close. Yet, that same promo also hinted that she may actually be the copycat Toyman herself, someone desperate to get close to him only to hurt him later. Could someone singing karaoke with her son (as seen in the photo above) really be that evil? It certainly makes you wonder…

Given how Metcalf is busy with Roseanne and will almost certainly get more movie roles following her Lady Bird success, we have a hard time thinking that she is going to make multiple appearances on Supergirl this season. Prepare for this to be a one-shot story and be happy if we get anything more. There are so many other things that the series needs to deal with, whether it be the presence of Reign or whatever secret Imra is holding from Mon-El.
