Gotham season 4 episode 17 promo: Is Jerome’s twin the Joker?

Gotham

Who is the Joker on Gotham season 4? That’s a question we may be starting to get a little bit closer to an answer on. Cameron Monaghan’s character Jerome was recently confirmed to not be the classic villain from the Batman comics … but nobody ever said that Monaghan isn’t playing the character in some shape or form.

There have already been some suggestions in interviews that Cameron is actually playing two different roles this season, and with that in mind it’s fair to starting thinking as to whether or not Jerome’s twin is the Joker, or if it is someone who was inspired by Jerome’s unique brand of madness and redid their whole look in order to appear similar to him (although we have kind of seen this already when Jerome’s face was cut off). Both of these seem like possibilities within this world.

One of the things that Gotham has done a good job at (really dating all the way back to the episode “The Last Laugh” during the second season) was implanting the idea of Jerome as this influential figure who would make people want to adopt his ways. It wasn’t something that he necessarily strived for, but it nonetheless still happened.

It does make sense to introduce the Joker at around this point given that the future of Gotham beyond this season isn’t entirely clear — though, in all honesty, we could really care less about the character’s backstory. We’re fine not knowing at all if he is Jerome’s twin, a lookalike, or anyone else. What really matters with a character like that is some of the pain that he is inflicting in the present. That has to be the focus more so than just about anything else in a situation where we don’t know if we are going to get anymore Gotham after this.

One way or another, we’re going to get at least some indication of what the Joker is bringing to the table on Gotham by the end of the season.
