Station 19 episode 4 preview: Andy, Jack’s tension heads to other venues

Moving into Station 19 episode 4 airing on ABC in one week’s time, there’s a good chance that you know one thing already about Jack Gibson and Andy Herrera: They are butting heads. It’s pretty hard for them not to be when you consider the positions that they are in as well as the fact that these two certainly seem to be aspiring for so much more. They have the captainship on their mind and they’ll do what they can to get it.

CarterMatt has some details on Station 19 episode 4 below, and they seem to strongly suggest that some of the issues these two firefighters are facing out in the field are also going to come into play in terms of the budget:

As if being co-captains weren’t hard enough, Andy and Jack find themselves in disagreement over spending decisions at the station. Meanwhile, the firefighters respond to a structure fire at a brand-new bed-and-breakfast; and Ryan calls Maya when he finds her brother in some trouble.

What sort of spending decisions come up when you’re running a firehouse? We imagine that there are a few different things at the center of it, whether it be equipment, community outreach, salaries or just figuring out how many steaks you need to buy for the next firehouse dinner. Every little penny adds up and it’s not just like firehouses have unlimited funds.

As for the other standout part of the synopsis it feels as though there are going to be some opportunities in this episode in order to see some interesting backstory for Maya — which is nice given that this is something we’ve wanted from the beginning. While we do have a fairly-clear picture already of who Andy Herrera is, there does still need to be a little bit of work put into identifying some of the other people within the firehouse and what they bring to the table.
