Roseanne season 10 premiere ratings enormous; black-ish season 4 surges
The two episodes that aired over the course of Tuesday night ended up generating overall a 5.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and also more than 18 million viewers. These are incredible ratings and are easily proof that there is still a huge crowd out there willing to watch this show. What’s ironic here is that despite all of the concern from some that Roseanne’s political beliefs would alienate some of her audience, it actually seemed to help draw in an enormous conservative crowd that isn’t being catered too elsewhere. We also think that there were plenty of other people who just wanted to see a show that featured both sides of the political spectrum so that they could better relate to what their own experiences are.
Roseanne is clearly not going to be going anywhere within the near future based on this, and we do think that as a result of that this the production is going to be enabled to continue to tell many of the same stories that they’re doing right now.
Also worth noting
The success of Roseanne bled over to black-ish, which drew its best rating since November 2014, all the way back in the very first season. Given that this is a fairly liberal show, its success does prove that comedy, and not politics, was also a very clear factor in what viewers chose to watch on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, these ratings bled over to the premiere of Splitting Up Together, which generated a 2.2 rating in the timeslot formerly occupied by The Mayor. These ratings helped out For the People (0.9), but it ended up still losing in the demo to Chicago Med (1.0).
