Law & Order: SVU season 20: Four reasons to make it happen
So what are the various reasons in which to make this happen? We like to think that we’ve got four very-good ones for you below!
1. The ratings – SVU has for years had a fantastic retention rate from one season to the next and we’re very much pleased to report that this hasn’t changed all that much at all. Season 19 has, at least so far, averaged a 1.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is close to even with the season 18 average. As of right now it is actually up in total viewers versus last season; there are few other shows out there on network TV that have managed to do that.
2. The history of it – There’s no avoiding the fact that if SVU makes it to a season 20, it will have an opportunity to tie Gunsmoke alongside as the most successful scripted series out there in terms of seasons on the air. This is such a great thing to put into a press release that it would be foolish to avoid it.
3. The relevancy of the subject matter – Saying this is not saying something positive about our society, given that we are now living within a climate where issues of sexual assault and harassment are more prevalent than ever before. Yet, there is still no denying that there are few shows on the air anywhere near as important as SVU when it comes to telling timely stories.
4. The opportunity to explore new character dynamics – With Philip Winchester only recently joining the show it feels at present like we are just scratching the surface of Peter Stone within this world. Exploring some of the relationships that he has with some of the other cast members should provide material for at least a few more seasons.
