New Outlander event coming to Los Angeles with Diana Gabaldon, Toni Graphia, more

Outlander season 4

In celebration of Outlander season 3 and its upcoming DVD release on April 10, there is yet another chance for Outlander fans to come together with some notable talent behind the scenes for the show.

Today, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment revealed that on Tuesday, April 3 at 5:00 p.m. Pacific time, there will be what is being called a “Sneak Peek Fan Event” at the Jimmy Stewart building in Culver City. If you want to attend, we suggest that you follow the email instructions in the graphic below — and do so quickly, given that space will fill up quickly. (As a matter of fact, it may be filled up by the time in which you’re reading this email.) Series author Diana Gabaldon is going to be present there, as is executive producer Toni Graphia. This is a chance to talk about both the writing of the books as well as the TV show — Graphia leads the charge in the writers room and she is therefore more knowledgeable about the adaptation process than almost anyone else out there. Gabaldon, of course, knows the story of Jamie, Claire, and everyone else backwards and forwards. She’s also in the process of writing the ninth book in the series entitled Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone.

Season 3, at least from a writing standpoint, was one of the most challenging editions of the show so far. Voyager is a huge book and that led in turn to difficult decisions as to stories to keep — you had not only multiple time periods but also multiple continents factoring into the story. There were plots like Helwater and Brianna’s upbringing that were told in a brief period of time to eventually make way for the Print Shop reunion and the journey to save Young Ian that came after the fact.

The fourth season of Outlander is going to premiere on Starz come later this year, and hopefully there will be more fantastic creativity injected into those episodes, as well. Filming is currently underway for what is going to be a different sort of season — while there are still multiple settings, this time around it is a little bit more about Jamie and Claire finding a stable home and less about the two parties being constantly on the move.
